Local observations from Carolyn Haggard · November 5, 2026 · Evening update
It didn't get all that cold last night with a low of 29°, but it was enough with the calm conditions to let the lake start skimming over.
Flat Lake and Mud Lake had ice forming all over the lakes. It was very thin, and most of it was gone by evening, thanks to the sunshine and a bit of an afternoon breeze, but the west end of Flat Lake kept it's skim of ice.
All the pontoon boats on Flat Lake have been put away for the season. I still have the Lund in the water on the other side of the island where a breeze is more likely to keep the water open, but it's possible that I may regret that decision in the morning!
